WHY are you not supposed to take appetite suppressants while pregnant?
Seriously, are we still on the “it’s worth the weight” kick, or is every single method out threre designed for appetite control really dangerous for a baby? Surely there ARE methods out there to help when your appetite is truly out of control. I have an idea that the claim that “dieting during pregnancy is unsafe” is out there to keep overzealous skinny-obsessed moms to-be from starving themselves. But eating less, or eating more healthily sounds like a great plan, until you feel like the baby is eating you from the inside. Seriously, I’ve gained 45 pounds and I can’t seem to make myself stop eating. The reccomended weight gain is 25-35 lbs, so I am not being skinny-obsessed. I do need help with my self control, and if there IS a supplement or trick out there to help me curb the extreme hunger and over-eating, I would love to know about it. I am sick of feeling like I am starving only to see that I’m gaining too much- it is not my imagination: it is a problem.

Most appetite suppresants contain stimulants such as caffeine (in high doses). They’re not particularly good for you even when you’re NOT pregnant.

It’s important to listen to your body when you’re pregnant. If you’re hungry, then you need to eat. You can watch your weight gain by choosing healthy foods to snack on, but you shouldn’t starve yourself.

The only reason you keep eating that much is because you are missing a certain nutrition. That’s what I’ve found out about me anyway. When I eat and eat and eat and can’t seem to get full its because I’m missing something in my food, whether it be enough calcium for that day, protein (which you should be eating 80-120 grams a day), vitamin C or whatever. I’ve gained 65 lbs and my doctor said its a good thing. I was underweight before getting pregnant so I gained what I needed to to catch up to the weight I was suppose to be and then plus the 35-40 lbs.

Listen sweetcakes. Your life doesn;t mean crap anymore. It is all about that baby you are carrying. Stop being so self-centered. Get your priorities straight and it will all fall into place. Lose the damned weight later. Yeesh.

The drugs in suppressants will harm the baby…PERIOD. It’s understandable that you are upset about the weight gain. You want to do what is best for the baby, though, right? You can do a quick search online and find horror stories of the things that the suppressants will do to the body. My physician told me that any woman over the age of 30 who touches one of them is just asking to have problems far worse than the weight issues. Try to find things to eat that are healthy alternatives if possible. You are having a natural reaction of mixed hormones and out of whack self image issues. Think about holding the baby…think of having that angel call you “Mommy.” Hold on…and then you will be able to work on getting the weight off and you’ll be fine.

the old saying that you are eating for two really is true. Don’t supress your appetite with over the counter meds. If you are concerned about your weight gain, watch what you eat and talk to your doctor. You can’t make yourself stop eating because there are things you need right now that you didn’t need before. Try variations of the things you are eating eating eating…instead of ice cream, try frozen yogurt, things like that….keep in mind, you really do lose the weight once the child is born. I remember that everyone was telling me: well why not try a peach instead of peach pie? blah blah blah.

Keep carrots in your purse….and good luck….the weight gain is soooooooooooooooooooo worth it….

appetite suppressants should not be used bc everything you take is going into ur baby’s system and ur baby needs to be gaining weight, I understand you feel ur eating is out of control, try eating more protein, from what I’ve been told that keeps u fuller longer, Or just eat healthy stuff for the most part that way you won’t feel guilty for eating extra, like at night when I’m super hungry but don’t want to eat anything heavy I eat good sized bowl of watermelon and strawberries so at least its fruit instead of a big bowl of ice cream, i worry about my weight to, but don’t obsess over it. I just find things to eat that are lower in calories and let my self splurge every so often that way I don’t feel so bad. Instead of a big greasy burger try a yummy turkey sandwich or grilled chicken, and instead of candy, try sweet fruit like strawberries and watermelon and if you really have an ice cream craving try frozen yogurt or serbet its just little ways to let yourslef eat and be full without the billion extra calories, but don’t be too worried, like my sister says what other time in ur life do u have an excuse to be big and eat what u want!!!!!

Do you know what appitite supressents are made of? The majority are either a lot of herbs, or they have caffine. Both caffine, and a good majority of herbs are bad for and could possibley kill the baby.

I’m preg. too. I eat when I’m hungry, and thats it. I wasn’t a skinny gal before hand. But I’m about 16 weeks and have gained exactly 13lbs this far.

You know what though, I eat healthy. I’ll allow myself to eat stuff that isn’t healthy or thats overly processed, only after the baby has enough, or almost enough of the nutrients it needs for the day. Plus the occassional (like once a week) donut. I also will give into a craving, if it’s something not horriblly bad, like a taco, or a sub or something. But I’ll just eat two tacos or a footlong sub, instead of gorgeing on it.

Thats the prob. All my friends have children by now, but all but two have gotten fat, and still are sorta, to tell the truth. The ones who are fat, they just ate what sounded good, no matter what it was. Chips, onion rings, mcdonalds, donuts, a can of frosting, deepfryedchicken. They’ll say oh the baby needs it. what the hell does a baby need to get from some frosting? come on now. but the other two gals (who also lost the baby wait easyer) would just OCCASSIONLY eat a cookie or three (not the whole bag), snack on gronalla bars, even if they were covered in choc., drink thier fruit juice and eat the vegis, not eat anything deepfryed, or maybe only once every couple of weeks.

If you do it, and stick to it, it won’t feel like the babys eating you from the inside. Just eat often. like 5 meals a day or so, and a couple snacks. that also helps with morning sickness if you get that.

Your problem isn’t you need an appite suppresnt, its you need to watch what your eating, and control youself. Put down the candy bar, and grab a choc. covered granola bar, or at least some ice cream ,which still has some sort of nutiritinal value!!! Don’t fill yourself with ‘empty’ callories, thats how you gain the weight.

That should be the least of your concerns right now. Of course, you don’t want to gain 80 pounds, either, but taking any diet type pill is a bad idea.
